BLACK SUN is an immersive audiovisual installation by José Man Lius and Gauthier Keyaerts, reinterpreting NASA archival imagery through a poetic and philosophical lens. Blending thermal, infrared, and X-ray aesthetics, the work evokes a mysterious cosmic body, exploring the tension between beauty and the sublime, the rational and the unknown. Through a dialogue between image and spatialized sound, the installation transforms the viewer into an active presence whose movements influence a dynamic, unstable environment. Drawing parallels between human perception and cosmic forces, BLACK SUN reflects on ego, attraction, and absorption, positioning the body as a living “black hole” within an imagined cosmos, where sensory experience reveals the limits of understanding and the power of the unknown.

BLACK SUN invite le public à découvrir un Corps non identifié — Une étoile mystérieuse située au centre d’un système solaire dans une dimension parallèle — La naissance d’un territoire énergétique ectoplasmique filmé du point de vue de la caméra thermique et du rayon X. Ce traitement de l’image hybride oscille entre des masses gazeuses esquissées et les variations de rayonnement infrarouges — électromagnétique à haute fréquence.
L’œuvre crée des correspondances entre illusion & réalité physique en deux étapes : Partie 1. 1 FILM HD. F.16.9 – 5MN15. / Partie 2. 1 installation comprenant —1 écran vertical qui s’aligne en ligne droite avec 6 tirages photographiques noir/argent issus de l’œuvre vidéo — 1 spatialisation sonore 4 pistes.
Nous vivons tous physiquement l’expérience du TROU NOIR au quotidien par rapport à des problèmes d’ego. Nous absorbons de la «matière» et nous en rejetons. L’œuvre met en parallèle le lien paradoxale entre le regard humain et dimension incommensurable des galaxies. Lors de son passage dans l’œuvre, le corps du visiteur est détecté et sa présence est interprétée comme une vibration qui a un impact sur l’équilibre d’un environnement donnant à voir le monde à l’échelle d’un COSMOS IMAGINAIRE. Si le visiteur s’approche de trop près, l’œuvre s’emballe et déclenche un signal d’alarme sensoriel. «L’Humain, ce trou noir cannibale, qui absorbe tout ce qui l’entoure»

BLACK SUN invites the audience to discover an Unidentified Body — a mysterious star situated at the center of a solar system in a parallel dimension — The birth of an ectoplasmic energetic territory filmed from the perspective of thermal cameras and X-rays. This treatment of hybrid imagery oscillates between sketched gaseous masses and variations in infrared — high-frequency electromagnetic radiation.

GENESIS PROJECT
We all physically experience the BLACK HOLE daily in relation to ego issues. We absorb « matter » and expel it. The artwork draws a parallel between the paradoxical connection of the human gaze and the immeasurable dimensions of galaxies. As visitors pass through the artwork, their bodies are detected, and their presence is interpreted as a vibration that impacts the balance of an environment, revealing the world on the scale of an IMAGINARY COSMOS. If the visitor gets too close, the artwork intensifies, triggering a sensory alarm. « Humanity, this cannibalistic black hole, absorbing everything around it. »

Dans sa version film d’art sur écran hors format, BLACK SUN déplace le regard vers la singularité plastique d’une tempête solaire, à partir d’une relecture poétique d’archives scientifiques de la NASA. L’image scientifique devient paysage cosmique : matière, lumière et énergie font dialoguer le rationnel et le merveilleux, le beau et le sublime, dans une filiation qui traverse le Baroque, le Romantisme et l’art conceptuel. Face à l’incommensurable, l’œuvre interroge les limites de la perception humaine et réactive, à l’échelle du cosmos, la question du sacré et du divin.
In its oversized-screen art-film version, BLACK SUN shifts the gaze towards the singular visual force of a solar storm, through a poetic reinterpretation of NASA scientific archival imagery. The scientific image becomes a cosmic landscape: matter, light, and energy bring the rational into dialogue with the marvellous, beauty with the sublime, through a lineage spanning the Baroque, Romanticism, and Conceptual Art. Confronted with the immeasurable, the work explores the limits of human perception and reactivates, on a cosmic scale, the question of the sacred and the divine.
